Control Arms
I have a '97 2.8Q with 28K which needs control arms replaced, at least on one side, and the mechanics acted like replacing A4 control arms was a daily occurence in the service bays. A friend with a '98 Passat (but out of warranty) also had to replace control arms, and VW-Audi replaced these at virtually no cost, after some loud complaining. Is there a history of this problem with the A4 platform? Does VW-Audi ackowledge it and subsidize/underwrite the repair (as they did with the Passat)?

Oh yes! It is a VERY common problem. I've had both sides replaced...
Now that I'm out of warranty, I plan to be very firm about requesting that Audi subsidize any future control arm replacements.
Start with the dealer, move to the regional service rep, and take it to AoA, if necessary.
