coolant needle behavior, and no its not the temp. sender.
During normal operation the coolant needle is perfectly vertical, no surprise there. if I turn off the car and then restart it 1-2minutes later, the coolant needle will be 10-15deg past vertical(hotter). After a minute, the needle will go back to vertical.
I dont remember this happening when i was stock or chipped.
perhaps this is because there is air in the lines? Or maybe this is normal?
I remember reading somewhere that one of the reasons why the 1.8t A4 didnt get an afterrun pump is because the layout of the coolant system was designed to let natural convection to circulate the coolant (somewhat) upon shut down. Perhaps this is why hotter coolant is reaching the temp sender after shut down.
It's really not anythign to worry about, provided the temps go down as soon as you start the car up agian.
You are seeing this now more than before mostly because you are working your engine a LOT harder than in stock form.
