Default Custom Dash Question

I have a 2000 with the stock symphony radio. I'm going to build a custom dash kit to provide a single-DIN opening. I am new to this, but have done a lot of reading. Should I make it out of MDF+ Bondo, or should I use fiberglass w/Bondo- and if fiberglass, should I use mat or cloth?
Thanks!

Default My reasoning...

I am going to make just a faceplate bezel for the radio. It will not involve changing my car permanently, and I will have extra raw materials to experiment with. I am attempting to create a situation where I can go back to stock quickly and easily. I just want to make sure I'm buying the right materials for the job.

Default I had a single DIN in there for a while, I'm not a fan of the look though.

It was okay at first, but there is way too much open space with a single din. Maybe if you put a pocket it would look better.

Default I see what you mean...

I have some ideas to help take up some of that space. Adding a few 12V power connections would help. I'm also considering building out a ridge at the top that's subtle enough to look nice but functional enough to route condensation from the cup holder away from my electrical equipment. I'm also considering adding a pocket to support electronics- like a PDA or cell phone (there's no good place to put them when charging with the wife in the car). Do any of those ideas sound ridiculous?

Default The carputer is not in the car anymore. I tried to modify the screen one day and

when putting the unit back into the dash, fried the HVAC.

After buying a new one, I decided not to cut it, making my dash plate useless. I bought another symphony radio, but now I can't snap it back in because I cut out the crossbars. It's basically just jammed in.

If you can do it right, I'd say go for it, but I didn't do it right. I learned an infinite amnount about the process and I'm grateful, but not at the expense of my car.

He won't need to mess with the HVAC though so it won't be as bad. I just shudder at the thought.

Since I jnjow have a hacked dash, I'm sure I'll try something else crazy again, just not sure what.
