Default In the dark....

Has anyone experienced frequent faulty low-beam headlights?

My dealer has replaced my low-beam bulbs twice in the past 16 months. They have now blown again. Usually one will go and then a coupla days later, the other. ...and i'm not the most popular guy around, driving at night with my high-beams on all the time!

The dealer says they got a batch of faulty bulbs, however, the originals did the same thing. Is this a common problem, like Audi's infamous glass quality, is the dealer correct, or might there be an electrical problem?

Any ideas really appreciated.

Thanks!

Bryon

Sounds like an electrical problem...

Default Or else, someone's getting smudges on the glass, which burns them out quicker.

Try replacing them yourself and use some alcohol to clean the glass. Just go to Pepboys or wherever and buy some Sylvania/Osram H7 bulbs. There around $13 bucks.

Default Even with that it's odd that they're popping that often...

Unless they goobered up every bulb...

Default What's your voltmeter read normally? That is odd.

Some cars appear to never burn out bulbs, while other folks burn them out all the time. Must be voltage related.

I think I run at 14 volts. Is that normal?

are you talking about the projector lens glass or the outer plastic shield?

Default Nope. The actual bulb itself. They warn not to touch the bulb glass...

Your skin oils result in hotspots on the bulb that will eventually break it. (I'm wondering if they mean shatter the bulb or just burn out the filament?? I'm not about to try it! I always clean mine off with alcohol first.

Default 13.8V is the standard I believe. Sounds alright to me.

I wish I had an answer for you.

Default The different surface temps caused by the oils results in a thermal gradient...

On that thin surface the gradient is enough to induce thermal shock and shatter the bulb.
