Default In dash cd

I just bought a 1999 A4 Avnt 1.8T Q Sntn Bl. Before I started looking for cars(my old corolla got wrecked) I wanted a in dash CD but liked the A4 so much i did'nt care. However, I would like to keep the concert system and possible connect an in dash CD player perhaps by removing the ash tray or something. Has anyone done this or know if it can be done?? Thanks for any info. <p>Vinay

As far as I know, the only way to add an in-dash CD is to replace the stock Concert radio. Otherwise you'll have to completely rebuild the dash. Options: purchase a CD changer that works with the Concert (Panasonic/Alpine) or get a new in-dash CD player. I just bought an Alpine head unit and boy is it better than the piece of #@!& that Audi gives you. Either way, it's going to be expensive. Good luck!

There isn't enough space behind the ashtray for a DIN sized CD player. The airbag control module is about 6" behind the front surface, and I don't imagine you'll want to be mess with that. I replaced my head unit with a Kenwood CD reciever using the Scosche adapter kit (see the archives for much more detail on this subject), and I mounted a 1/2 DIN graphic EQ in place of the ashtray/lighter.
