Default Did I get the wrong CD bracket?

I just got my CD changer + adapter for my 97
A4, stock radio. But I think that I got the wrong mount, because the FAQ talks about a horizontal
mounting bracket, but the one I got is vertical
mount with with carpeting that fits in the
tire jack area, part # 8D5 035 113. That kind
of sounds like the mount bracket for the 98.5
A4 changer, isn't it? Do I have the wrong mount?
2 other questions, I didn't get any screws or
instructions either. a) which screw is the
shipping screw? and b) what size screw do I need
for bolting it into the (correct) bracket?
97 A4 1.8T Q AT

Default Maybe bad news... read on

If you did in fact got a CD changer AND an adapter to make it work, chances are you got a CD changer for the newer Concert radio. On the 97 A4's, the Delta radio was used, and I don't think an adapter is available for any non Audi CD player. The bracket that you recieved with the CD changer further indicates that you may have gotten an incorrect CD player. On the factory Audi CD player for the Delta radio, the bracket is just a simple piece of metal the bolts to the bottom of the rear shelf.
HTH
Bert

Thanks Bert,
That's what I thought, I thought that the 97 Changer bracket was different than the multi
compartment unit that fits in the tire jack area.
But I'm fairly certain that I got the right CD changer though, I looked through the archives
and saw Steve S's post for the part number, and he listed the 97 Delta changer as
4D0-035-111, which is the one that I got. I didn't get any adapters, only the changer +
wheel well mounting box.
Brian
97 1.8T AT Sport
Default I guess you have 2 options...

Brian,
I guess you are now face with the dilemma of either using the the mounting box in hand, or trading it in for the mounting bracket. Let me state some pro's and con's I've seen with my mounting bracket.
a. The bracket does get the CD changer off of the bottom of the trunk but it is now vulnerable to getting hit when you are a little careless with loading things in the trunk.
b. If the bolts used to hold the bracket in place do loosen and backout, there is more distance for the CD changer to drop and potentially be damaged.
c. Getting it off the trunk bottom does give you a little more usable trunk space. (I've never had that much stuff in my trunk this would have been an issue.)
Final note - If I had an option when bought my CD changer, I would have gotten the mounting box instead. But I would probably find minor annoyances with that too.
Please take your gain of salt with this post.
Bert
