Difference in Engine performance.

I have a MY2000 A4. I have about 1000+ miles on it. I noticed that before I hit the 900 mileage mark; my car seems to pull better and is quieter ( I dont really hear the turbo spooling). Now, between 900-1000 miles. I noticed that to get the car going I need to step on it a little bit more and I can hear the turbo spooling louder (compared to barely hearing it spool before). I did hit 5000 rpm once and it seems ever since then it has acted differently. I also notice that my gas is being used up faster. I usually get 25mpg and use 92 octane??? any suggestions. I don't think I blew the turbo or else my car would really seem sluggish.

Leo, I have a 00 1.8TQM (1200 mi) and have also noticed the same thing with the exception of hearing the turbo whine. At about 1000 miles I noticed somewhat of a drop in performance. There is not as much torque in the low to mid range. The drop off is not all that perceivable, however, I have noticed it. On mine it seems to come and go intermittently. Sometimes It runs like a bear and other times it's not as strong…..….My first thought was that the computer was reacting to the changes in ambient temperatures, air pressure, and humidity levels as I live in upstate NY where the weather has been all over the graph lately. I noticed that it has more power when the ambient barometric pressure is higher. But then I realized, this is a 00 and the level of sophistication on this thing should compensate for that and control boost accordingly. Maybe it's all just a dream (I'm sure that's what the dealer will tell me). Anyway, this morning it ran fine and pulled nicely. I haven't taken it to 5000 rpm or beyond lately so I cant comment on what that will do. I'll try it tonight. If it doesn't get better I'll take it to the dealer or better yet I'll call a chipper……….Let me know what happens with yours…..
