disk reading problem help?

disk reading problem help?
The cd player in my car does not read disks anymore it merely skips every ten seconds and doesnt play half the songs on brand new cds. also i think it might have even scratched one. my 6track in the back still works but i have tons of free time any suggestions on how i can take care of this annoying problem ( without to much)

You mean a 6 disc CD changer.
I had visions of some weird version of an 8 track from 70's.

So your Symphony I head unit is probably bad.
Not uncommon unfortunately and not easily repaired.
If CD's are that important to you and just using the changer is not an option, I would buy a replacement head unit (make sure you get the code) on E-Bay for less than $100. There are several there right now I looked.
Remove the old one with the correct radio keys and in 20 minutes or less you would be back in business. You may need a Vag.com to tweak the setup.
I haven't used a CD in any of my Audi's since 2004 since I switched to an iPod.

i actually have an fm modulator hooked up to it for my ipod (pretty sure thats what its called) it is makes it so a radio station plays my ipod without any distortion.thats still working im not sure if it will last and is dependent on the same part of the radio thats going bad

Here is a diy tip if your handy.Find your radio code.Take your head unit out of the car. Get it on a bench with the right screw drivers to take the shell off. Take some canned air and blow out any dust.Once you do, look for the lense that reads the cd.Take a cotton swab and some alcohol and clean the lens gently.It is shaped like the top of a small bulb so clean all of the surface.Reinstall and try it. That should cure your problem. If that's not it....E Bay.
