Do radar detectors tell you if a cop is near even if he is not using a radar gun?

Uniden BearTracker can do what you are asking for...

basically it's a police scanner (can you say illegal, already?), with all 50 states' known police radio frequency pre-programmed. So, you tell it what state you are in, and each time it detects a police radio broadcast (w/in 3miles), it will send off a warning - much like they do in radar detector.
Cool thing is.. it's about the size of a radar detector.. and can be hidden away from plain view.

Of course, it's illegal in most states to have a police scanner - unless you have a HAM radio operators license.

Price is less than $200.

Doesn't work well in metropolitan areas, at least in houston

I could never get mine to work right, I'm thinking that Houston police don't use the same kind of repeater radios it was designed for.

Heheh!... odd...

Girls in my car (yes I do get girls to get in my car every once in a while, lol) ask me why my radar detector didn't go off when we just passed a cop car, and I have to explain that it doesn't detector cop cars, it detects radar.
