Does anyone know the difference in Multitronic and Tiptronic? what is the diff (exept visually)

Default Tip has 5 forward gear ratios, CVT has hundreds (thousands?)...

so, you basically don't feel when the CVT shifts - it really doesn't - it kind of slips through the numerous gear ratios it has.

However, the CVT can be operated like a Tip if you want to. So, CVT is a Tip plus much much more.

It's easier to understand if you just go a testdrive one.

Default True. Multitronic is very much like a Snowmobile transmission..

it essentially has infinate ratios, but what they did was make 'steps', or dictate that a specific ratio would or could be maintained, a la the tip, for better feel and driveablilty.

Default yeah, at first it's a bit weird driving in a CVT-equipped car...

you expect it to shift, but it just never does (or at least it feels like it never does).

I was also amazed at how responsive it is - talking about the 3.0 engine, however.

Default The 3.0 vs a 1.8t should feel much better at the low end.. No lag..

The MT is supposedly much better feeling than the Tip too, would be nice to see one on a quattro car..
