shouldnt matter as long as you dont have your foot on the accelerator when doing a TBA

Default Thanks ... I just tried it on my 1.8TQ Tip by disconnecting ...

the battery for 15 minutes then following the steps for a TBA and it seems to have made my idle much worse. Do I need to drive it for a while afterwards?

Default you should be able by just turning the ignition on and leaving it one for a minute or two

doing that several times you should hear a humming sound which is the throttle body moving. i do mine every month or so since i am drive by wire and it sucks compared to the old cable engines

Default that's what I had read previously, but I had also read ...

that you need to either use VAG or disconnect the battery first. So, anytime that I turn the car w/o starting it the TB will do an adjustment? BTW, my car is a 99 (pre-99.5), so it's DBW if that matters. Right now it idles OK in that it is not irratic, but when returning to idle from higher RPM's it undershoots and then returns to the a stable RPM. Perhaps this is not a TBA issue?

Default If you had a vagcom you can check the angle also.

Think about investing in a Vagcom cable and software..you won't be disappointed. You may want to warm the car up and do that process over again.

Default I've got the cable and vagcom (shareware) ...

I did the TBA with the the engine warm. I assume that the shareware version doesn't let me do the TBA via vagcom? I assume you mean the TB angle. What should it be normally?

Default I don't know what the shareware offers..

I bought the cable and software from Uwe himself right after he released it to the public. I think you need a full version at this point. Can you check for codes with that shareware version? If so, do you have any codes? You should not need to mess with the angle, but you can log block 003 and 054. 003 will give rpms, maf readings, throttle angle and adv timing. Block 054 should show you pedal throttle and throttle body %.

Default Checked for codes and I logged block 3 about a week ago on the way ...

to work. There were no codes and nothing that seemed unusual about the items in block 3. Perhaps I should try cleaning the TB?

Default You could pull the boot off and give it a quick clean that way...

and check to see if it is sticking. You may find about a teaspoon of oil in there, that is normal.
