Default DOH - Re-assembling the head

I am re-assembling the AEB head and managed to break two of the cam cap screws. I had the torque wrench set to 15 ft lbs, so I assume it's too tight.

Can someone look up in the manual for the correct torque and does anyone have a core head in the DC area that I can borrow 2 bolts from?

I won't be able to get replacements until Wednesday. Did I say - DOH?

Default Head bolts are 44 ftlbs then...

there are two steps, first tighten to 44 ft lbs from the middle working out. Go side to side from center working out till your all at 44lbs. Then Bentley says to do an additional 1/2 turn in same pattern using rigid wrench (180 deg, or two 90 deg turns)

Default Cam Caps

I need the specs to the cam caps and not the head bolts. 8,10, 12 or something around there.

Bearing cap to cylinder head 7 ft/lbs.

Default It'll blow your head, CLEAN off.

A nice bath, bead blasting, decked and a precision valve job.

Tightening torques

Component
Tightening torques

Cylinder head cover to cylinder head
10 Nm (7 ft lb)

Ignition coils to cylinder head cover
10 Nm (7 ft lb)

Crankcase ventilation line to cylinder head cover
10 Nm (7 ft lb)
_________________________________________________
- Insert cylinder head bolts and hand tighten

- Tighten cylinder head bolts in sequential order, in two stages:
Step 1 = 60 Nm (44 ft lb)
Step 2 = additional 1/2 turn using rigid wrench (180 is equivalent to two 90turns)

Default Ohh....u said "decked"!!! U know how much?

That's an easy way of gaining a few ponys. Do u have the numbers of how much it was decked?
If u do, let us know, what's the compression ration now.
I had my 86 8v scirocco decked. Well, the machine shop took a little too much off. The engine gained much pep...However, I had to use 93 at ALL times. Anything lower, and it sounded like a diesel....

Default Lowering the the head by shaving the deck is the worst thing you can do

since there is very little clearance between the valves and piston top as it is. The other problem will be that you will have to run a much lower adv timing or much higher octane all the time. You can get the same effect by just tuning the stock CR with more timing for the higher octane level.
