I'm hoping someone here may be of help to me, as my frustration level is getting pretty high. I have a 1997 A4 1.8t Q. I got the P0445 when my car was hooked up to a NH inspection station computer. I already knew from a previous visit to 2 dealerships that the problem is the ldp pump, and possibly the charcoal canister. (I said the pump, as replacing the hose didn't fix it; the other said it was the pump and the charcoal canister.)

Because of the inspection I now need to get this taken care of in the next week +. I called the dealership, and they said it would be $700 to fix both. I am able to have a family member do the repair, so I called Shokan to order the parts. They said that the charcoal canister was not on the 1997, it did not appear until 98. However, the dealership did not contradict that my car would have the charcoal filter, and it is in the Haynes manual (I realize Haynes is not a reliable source). So, Shokan asked me to get a part number. But when I called Lakes Region Audi dealership in Gilford NH, the parts guy yelled at me for asking for the part number. Called Shokan back and they said there is a split in the 1997 year, so they don't know which part to send. Since my Haynes manual is apparently not a good source, I'm not even sure where to look for the part in order to find the part number.

Additional info: the Haynes manual describes the ldp pump as being in the left rear wheel well, and the charcoal filter being below the spare tire well under a cover. My car was manufactured at the end of the 97 production year. I believe in the last month or two of it. If this info is needed I will go out and get the definite date.

Can anyone help me with any more definite information on this? It would be much appreciated.

I checked the date, and my car's was July 1997, if that is helpful
