Engine Code on engine doesn't match code in trunk
I had to look up the engine code on my 99.5 1.8T to order some parts for the timing belt replacement. I found that the engine code on the engine block is AEB. The engine code on the sticker in the spare tire well of the trunk is APU.
Curious if anyone else has seen this before and why this might be? I bought this car used in 2000 from a dealer and the carfax report was clean.

There are different codes for the block.
AEB is the code for the head. So APU might be the block code. You should be able to find it on the block too.
I was just told the other day that there are even 3 different engine codes for the 2000 but all 3 use the ATW head.
