engine jerk when the car is cold?

I own a 1999.5 1.8T QMS. When the car is cold, particularly now in the winter, is anyone experiencing an engine jerk when accerlerating after starting the engine up? I only have 10K miles on the car.... damn.

This is normal. Here's what I was told....

I used to have a 98 Jetta GT 2.0L that did the same thing. VW service rep said that VW/Audis run rich until warmed up. The only way to avoid this is to drive it in a higher gear than normal (lower RPM) or let it warm up a little longer. I sometimes let my A4 warm up for 10 min when its in the high 20's and low 30's outside. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Do you experience this anymore with your 1.8T or have you eliminated the problem by letting it warm up? Confused b/c the manual says it's not necessary to warm up the engine....

Yes, I can still experience it only when engine is cold. Mine is about 1 year old.

More info....

My A4 will not idle at a higher RPM as other manufacturers do, like a choke would on an older car. I let it warm up no matter what. Once it is warm it runs fine even when very cold outside (saw 28 degrees on the trip computer) here in South Texas. Just let your A4 warm up in the future and you should be OK. Remember even when the water temp is already up, the oil temp is still low on cold days. Engine is not happy until warmed up.

i don't experience a jerk but i did post a message awhile ago asking if anyone has a whistling sound coming from the engine when cold temps are present. i didn't get any good answers but i am having the car checked by audi 2 wks from now. does your car make a noise or just a jerk? i have found if i let my car warm up it does lessen the noise but i dont always have the time to warm it up. unfortunately the sound is miserable. how come other cars don't do this?
