Engine Knock, altitude and a knock monitor.

Hi, I've been wondering about this for a while. I'm at almost 8000 ft. altitude, and usually at this altitude, you can run 95 Octane engines with 87 Octane due to the lack of oxygen. However, since I have a Euro apr mod on my 1.8t I'm wondering if the 98 octane program can run on 94 octane fuel safely (turbo + mod + altitude???). I think the easiest is to make a knock monitor (I had an LED in my mitsubishi that flashed when there was knock). Anybody have any clue about any part of this?

if you find a simple way to make a visual knock sensor, let me know :)

Ok, found a thread on the Y! Vag com group. I just wanted to know if someone had hacked a little circuit or something. Looks like groups in the 02x range may give me what I'm looking for. I guess I'll wait to get my VAG COM kit then.

I will be looking into this when I get my A4.

In my Mitsu, it was a simple matter of wiring a LED into the boost control selonoid that lit when the engine detected boost.

Gotta get the service manual firt to see wht the signal is from the knock sensor. I will post results when I get around to it.
