Default Re: a response....

You might pull the cam shaft sensors and check for oil leaks through the seal behind it. If this is the case, then you might consider replacing the pcv as well. Usually when there are upper end leaks in the engine its due to overfilling, faulty relief/pressure switch, or a bad pcv for the crankcase pressures.
Checking the sensor itself:
1)terminal 3 and engine ground : 1 ohm

Default The codes are driving me in the direction of the bank 2 c'shaft sensor

Are the camshaft sensors serviceable or do I have to buy new?

Default CPS About $80 from Autohaus AZ.

I had this problem with my 1996 12 valve in the fall.(just before I sold it, isn't that the way it always goes?)

Only 10 minutes to replace. 10mm socket if I recall drivers side back of head.

Default a comment....

Unfortunately, serviced by basically purchasing a new unit. Generally for the cost of a new seal and sensor, it's inexpensive insurance to avoiding a breakdown in a rural place with no facilities. I've seen people clean them after oil exposure but they just tend to give issues down the line. There should be only one sensor located on the backside of the driver's side head.

Default You need to log camshaft correction with a vagcom.

Those codes are common with cam chain and or timing chain issues. When was the last TB, and have you had any oil leaks repaired?

Default Timing belt was replaced about 30k ago.

Not sure about oil leaks in that area. I plan to replace camshaft sensor and oil seal to at least eliminate that problem. Any difficulties removing the oil seal? I don't have the special tool so was thinking about drilling and screwing in self tapping screws and pulling it out by them? Are the camshaft seals all the same?

Default CPS

So it was the Camshaft Position Sensor shown in the picture and not the Crankshaft Sensor cable?
