Engine Overheating . . . need advice. . .
Overheating came back. I decided to drain and replace the radiator. (Back in 01 I had to replace a radiator for the same type of condition.) Well new radiator is installed and system bled but overheating is still occuring.
Based upon my searches I have three possible culprits 1) T-stat 2) Water Pump 3) head gasket. I am tempted to change the t-belt and just replace t-stat and pump at same time. However, the upper and lower hoses on the radiator are hot indicating that coolant is flowing in and out. Also, the needle doesn't go all the way to H but just to the first line past center.
Any thoughts from you expert trouble shooters out there. . .
FYI. . . I'm at 140k had water pump and timing belt done at 90k. After 9 years I'm about to call the scrap yard. . . to pick it up.

There is a fan sensor/switch in the lower area of the radiator (location varies) which craps out over time. You should start by replacing this. They are pretty cheap but it requires that you drain the coolant.
If that doesn't work, there are 2 electric fan relays, and a few other components which can be at fault. I would start by replacing the fan switch and coolant (be sure to bleed the system afterwords). Search for "electric fan" and filter for posts by ModifiedA4. He is the electric fan guru in my opinion and helped my solve the problems I had on my 98 2.8.
