Engine Stalling
In many cases when a problem occurs a fault code is stored. You might get a CEL or MIL. Check Engine Light / Malfunction Indicator Light. Not always though.
You can use a code reader to read the codes from memory.You plug into the socket under the steering wheel.
VAG.com is the one most of the Old Timers use. Once you know the code you have a much better chance of fixing it. Vag.com (by Ross-tech) runs on a laptop and has a lot of features.
Parts stores like Autozone also lend / sell generic readers. These can work OK but are not Audi/VW specific so can miss some codes.
Harbor freight sells a generic code reader for about $50.
You should try a can of BG44K to clean out your fuel system It could be the idle control valve is dirty.
When was the timing belt changed last? (Don't think it is the issue you have but worth having done if you do not know when it was done.)
