Engine surging at idle
A few weeks ago, after having a new socket installed on my GIAC ECU, I noticed that the engine would occassionally "surge" a few hundred RPM while at idle. I heard a slight tick or click, and it was follwed by the engine revving up to about 1200 RPM or so. It only happened about 2 or 3 times in the past few weeks, but since my car stalled once already due to a bad socket, anything out of the ordinary is a cause for concern.
I thought that Todd @AWE put in a new chip along with the new socket. (I know that Garrett makes an anti-surge program, and was wondering if I needed this.)
However, I've been running the stock ECU for the past couple of days, and it still surged up once the other day while stopped at a traffic light.
Is this a normal condition ?
Should I have it checked ? It only happens every once in a while -- so it might be hard for the dealer to troubleshoot.

Don't think so, but I'll be more observant next time.
The temps here in NY have been pretty cold lately so the AC compressor hasn't even been on very much.
But it is still a possibility. Thanks for the suggestion.
Although a few months ago, when the AC compressor WAS on, I didn't notice any surging.

Darn, this happened to me for the past month or so... (more) <Any fixes?>
Dealer tested out on 12/29/99 and reported that they "can not reproduce the problem" so they did not do anything about it.
This does not happen every single time when I come to a stop light and idle.

Happens to me too, I think that's normal
The AC is one of the reasons. I think the other has to do with the demand on the electrical system. In my car, if I pull up on the window switches, while the windows are closed, the engine will surge. Probably because the electrical system has a feedback loop into the ECU to increase the RPMs and turn the alternator faster to generate more current. The clicking sound that you hear may be a relay that turns something on. What that is, I have no idea, this car has too much stuff in it. I would not worry about this, but I am not a car mechanic or anything, so get it checked out if you are still having doubts.
