Default engine/tranny problem ?? HELP..

I have a 1997 A4 1.8TQA with an annoying problem...Just as I come to a complete stop at a light or whatever the engine gives a shake/vibration like its going to stall but never does (it is very subtle and it is really only the driver that can feel it). Looking at the tach the RPM's never drop below normal idle. Is that an engine issue or a tranny issue. Any information would be great.

Thanks

Master T

Default well lets think about it... your coming to a stop... your engine is pretty much being thrown...

from the back to the front... you have to remember... you accelerate.. you yourself gets pushed into the seat? correct? when you decelerate.. your body is eased off from the seat.... same thing with an engine.. the mounts hold the engine like a seatbelt.. it might not hold you in place when your being pushed back.. but when you get lunged forward. and you also have to remember that it is holding up an engine at the same time.. so could it be possible.. yes it could be... if you want a definate.. i couldnt tell you.. have a friend of yours press on the gas pedal while you watch your engine movement.. if you see a lot of play.. yes it is time.. if it doesn't move much... then you might be ok and you have a larger problem. most engine/tranny problems occur from bad mounts. then comes from the way you drive your car.

Default cheking for bad motor mounts more inside

get somebody to sit on the drivers seat, make sure the car is parked (hand brake up)have the person put the car in first gear and release the cluch slowly the car wont move cause the parking brake is on, but the engine should swing a bit, with the hood open u should see how much the engine swings, if it swings more than two inchs than u have a defective engine mount.oh yea do the same thing in reverse.
hope this helps
