External temperature sensor failure
Has anyone experienced repeated external temp sensor failures? Mine was replaced by the previous owner last August, days before I picked up the car. And it's in the process of failing again. Less than 5k miles on it.
Example behavior - when I start the car in my garage, and it's probably 60 degrees outside, the outside temp shows as 20 deg F. While driving the car, it will drop to as low as -58 deg F, and then slowly cycle up to the current temp (slowly == over about 15 minutes).
Trying to use the A/C when the external temp sensor reads below zero doesn't work.
Anyone?

Mine does that alot in 100+ degree weather in PHX...
...again, like the LED degredation, Phoenix heat reeks havoc on my A4. The external temperature thing going berzerk happens about 2-3 times per week, doing the same thing as you describe. Having your A/C compressor shut down when its 105+ degrees outside is not fun.
I haven't felt the need to have mine fixed, Audi said it wasn't covered under warranty and it would be about $300.

The AC compressor kill gets a feed from the ambient temp sensor.
When it's below freezing out, the AC compressor shuts off...it just doesn't know that it's NOT below freezing when this sensor goes DOA.

Mine cycles to -58 deg F, and refuses to engage the AC when it's below +29 deg F. I can't believe it's gone out twice in less than a year...
