Default Is the a FAQ section on here? (more inside...)

I want to do a major tune-up on my 96 2.8 Quattro. I tried the search function (again) and there are something like 1200 results with "tune-up" in them.

I want to know all the stuff I need to replace while I'm under there. I bought the car January of 04 with 86,000 miles. It now has 133,000 (that's what happens when you drive 85 miles roundtrip to work everyday...) and other than oil changes, I haven't done any serious maintenance. I figured plugs, wires, fuel filter... Anything else? I have a K & N air filter, so I am going to go buy the cleaning kit and clean that, what else am I missing?

And, while you're here, I think I'm coming up on clutch change time. Where's a good place to buy a clutch from? What brand should I be looking for? I saw the previous owner changed the clutch around 50,000 miles (he must have been riding that sucker!) and it cost $1500 at the dealer, which to me is insane.

All help is appreciated.

Default Here's the B5 FAQ link. You may want to consider just buying a new paper air filter

since it's possible you might over-oil the K&N and then ruin your $300 mass air flow sensor. I don't know if the K&N has any proven gains on 2.8s, but on 1.8s, all they do is make your intake louder. 85 miles round trip isn't bad, I do 78 one way. Good luck.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2299748.phtml</a

Default Suggestion (a little long)

You may want to check with Blauparts.com or SASPOnline.com, or ecstuning.com. I have had great service from the first two, and have not yet ordered anything since I hard of ECS. Blauparts rents the special tools needed for various jobs. You may want to search for "maintenance" because someone recently posted a link to a maintenance schedule, which includes everything down to each oil change.
How major is major? I would start with wipers blades, belts, plugs and filters (Don't forget the cabin air filter!), check all fuses, change brake fluid, hydraulic fluid, coolant, oil, tranny fluid and check for any DTC's. Then, I would change the timing belt (you may want to wait on changing the coolant). Use the OEM fluids so everything is within factory spec when it comes to maintenance intervals- The only item I would not use OEM would be brake fluid because I like to change the color when I change it- it's easier for me to tell when it has come all the way through the system and out the bleeder screws. I would also check brake pads, rotors, and tires. And make sure to use the special tools (not improvised ones) on that engine- if you haven't already noticed, there isn't much room in there (I recommend removing the front bumper, radiator, and condenser because on that engine it is necessary to remove the 6 ( or is it 8?) hex bolts on the crankshaft gear. Before anything else I listed, buy a Bentley, if you haven't already.
