Fuel Filter Replacement on Jack Stands
I’m preparing to do some summer maintenance. How difficult is it to replace the fuel filter on a 2000 A4 1.8 Quattro on jack stands? I am comfortable doing most maintenance jobs, while working under jack stands. However, after doing some research around the forum…I am a little worried about dropping the fuel tank to replace the filter. I’m planning to use the this DIY:

Do you guy’s have any suggestions or tips for making the filter replacement process easier?
Now, my new filter came with copper washers for both sides of both banjo fittings. But it leaked with the new washers so i just went with the old ones. Make sure you dont install the filter backwards.
The fuel filter is indeed very snug and I had to undo the fuel tank straps to remove it.
Here are some hints:
+ Try to use the correct OEM filter. I used a third-party filter and it has a larger diameter than the OEM filter, making replacement a bigger pain. I wished I had spent the extra $15 for the OEM filter.
+ You'll need a 20mm wrench to hold the filter while you loosen the bottom 19mm banjo bolt.
+ Try not to let the straps snap off the tank -- they're a pain to snap back on (you'll see what I mean)
+ Use a big zip tie to replace the 8mm triple-square filter retaining strap
Did you have trouble removing the bolts on the filter? I'm certain that my filter has not been replaced in a few years, so I'm preparing for the worst.
