Took delivery of my 01 last night. Sweet! I couldn't stop grinning! 
Has anyone gotten the 'paint protection' and extended warranty package? Are they worth it? I have decide by noonish today! Input anyone?

Paint protection? no... extended Warranty ...depends on if your keeping it more than 3 years, if so,
then get it now.

The 'paint protection' packagne is almost certainly nothing more than an overpriced wax job. You can generally buy an extended warranty anytime while the factory warranty is still in effect. You can also buy them from many sources so can shop for price, you do not have to buy from your Audi dealer. The reason he is pressuring you to buy them is that the profit margin on an extended warranty is usually about 100%, on the paint protection likely about 1000% (those are not typos.) Paint sealant (nothing more than a polymer-based liquid wax) is usually applied by an outside contractor for a charge of about $35 to the dealer, the people who do it get paid by the car so they no incentive to do it right, only quickly.

I do plan on keeping the car 5+ years,
can I go through any company to get extended warranty? The sales dude was saying it would cost about twice as much if I tried to buy it near the end of my actual Audi warranty...

In one word, yes, it's cheaper to buy it up front...
Years back I was looking for my old car, and the warranty prices increased with the cars age. Frankly, I would rather pay $200 more in three years, than pay $200 less for something I won't be using for another three years (ext. warr. takes effect after the manufacturers warranty expires).
Another note: If you plan to do mods to the car, it may not be worth it to buy the extended warranty since they may not honor the warranty due to the mods. Just a thought!
