Default Got the E-codes hooked up with the relay!

Thanks MarkP for the great write up and Kris Hansen for the relay diagram.

It was kind of a pain to figure out, I felt like I was back in an old EE class at times. After a few hours of studying the system and the schematics I was ready to go. Luckily I took the day off today because I spent a good few hours driving around picking up parts not to mention the actual install. First I had to get the Bosch relays (part #0332209150, Bosch #, not Audi ). That took two or three tries but worked out because I discovered an import car part store I never knew about. They had everything. Score! I realized that the ECS lighting "harness" wasn't enough to hook the lights up relay style, so off to the dealer for both male and female adaptors for the plugs.

Don't buy the ECS wiring kit if you have one piece lights! I paid $2.95 per wire at the dealership. They're long and come with connections on both ends. Cut them in half and you have the "kit" for 1/7 the price from ECS ( don't forget shipping). For the relay setup with non-xenons, you'll need two female wires (part #000-979-133) and one male (part #000-979-129). You'll then use half of each per side.

One female connection is to run the parking light wire into the US plug for the city lights (the E-codes already have one) and the other male and female connections are to run the parking light power into the headlight carrier, through the plug. (This isn't so obvious from the write up, at least not to me).

Anyways, after some cutting, splicing, and soldering it all worked perfectly. The E-codes look great. I'm really glad I hooked them up this way with the corner lights independant of the city lights. Once again, thanks guys for the great info.

Default got a link to the writeup you're talking about?

i have my city lights coming on with the parking lights, but have been thinking i would rather have the parking lights off when the city lights are one and only used as turn signals.

didn't find anything in the tech section, but haven't searched yet, so it might be as easy as that... heh. just being lazy and seeing if you had a link readily available. ;-)

thx

Default I put all the part numbers to duplicate ECS' "wiring kit" in the ecode writeup I did...

Default Your write up is for pre 99.5. What I did is quite different. Here's the link for AEKDB

I definately recommend doing it this way. Simply splicing into the parking light wire kind of ruins the effect of the city lights. Doing it this way, only the city lights are on when the light switch is in park and then the headlights and corner lights come on when you flip the switch up to turn on the headlights. The turn signals work as normal.

I know this is nothing new, but I'll save you the trouble of searching. Use this in conjuncion with KH's drawing above and the part numbers I gave and you should be all set.

http://ctny.audiworld.com/mark/s4/euros/euroinstall.html</a
