Got a freaking ticket...
So me and about 4 other friends of mine were all driving over to a buddy's house, not really speeding or anything "dangerous". I notice some flashing lights in my rear view mirror, and so did everyone ahead of me, we all slow down and pull to the side of the road expecting the guy to pass since we weren't speeding, and 2 out of the 5 cars (including me) had Valentine 1 radar detectors, and they did not go off.
The officer comes to my door asks for license and registration and says that we were all "drag racing" on the street. First off, how the hell can you "drag race" with 5 other cars on a one lane road!? The cop goes and interrogate my friends, and after about 20 minutes of writing tickets up, comes back to my car and says he's going to be "nice" and give a speeding ticket for 66 MPH in a 40 MPH. In Indiana, 1-25 MPH over is just a normal ticket, but 26+ MPH is considered reckless driving. I know for a fact that we didn't even make it over 60 MPH, and my V1 didn't even have on boggy, so I asked the officer how he can give us a ticket when he didn't even have out his radar. Basically the jerk just tells me he didn't get an accurate reading but he could obviously tell that we were doing an excess of 70 MPH with his "experience". He continues to threaten to suspend my license if I do not cooperate and accept the ticket. So Officer Jerk Off doesn't give a ticket for 23 over, not 25 over, but 26 over, because you know, it's the end of the month and they gotta meet their quota.
So now I'm stuck with a f*cking $165 ticket with no chance to do the differal program (you can only do the Diversion Program if your ticket was 1-25 MPH over), for something that the cop obviously had no proof of.
One thing I noticed is that the cop wrote down the wrong area of the "crime commited"... is there any way that could void the ticket? We were going south on College Ave. and he pulled us over at 78th and College... but he wrote down 73rd and College.
Enough of my ranting... what do you think I should do!? Pay the freaking ticket, or take it to court? Right now being a teenager, it seems that I'm going to have a snowball's chance in hell to get this ticket taken away in court.
Now that you have a court date set you have two options....one is to actually show up on the day of the hearing and plea your case (hopefully the schmuck won't show up and you can plea not guilty). However, in the case that he does show up, you can give your case, say you are innocent and that there is no way that the cop could have paced all 5 of you in a one lane street and write a ticket for a different area. And if the magistrate (judge) doesn't buy that, ask to see the calibration information for the gun (because my cop buddy told me that 80% of these guns are not calibrated when they are supposed to be).
This may seem like a shot in the dark, but at this point...it may be all you got player!
