grinding noises in power steering pump (again)
exactly one week and it started doing it, fluid was low, i bought some, lifted front wheels (like some one advised me to do on this site) bled it, turned the wheel all way to left and right 10 times, made sure it was empty, then filled it, turn wheels again, 10x, then started it and turned wheel again, 10x, its still sounding like a tractor, i drove it 2 miles, didnt help, drove it for 10 miles, keeping it in high rpms, 3-5k, cam back check level, its good, and the noises are alot quiter, but when i start it again, on cold engine. sounds like a tractor again, engine warms up, then quits down alot,
what could possibly cause this? or should i just get a working pump? and bleed the system and do it like i described, and see if it works for more than a week?
im just running out of ideas why it does this? its like air getting in my system. how and why? or is there something else?
thank u in advance,
Early A4 pumps don't last all that long. Did you replace it with new or 2nd hand?
Also, when you drained the system & turned the wheel your 10x (I don't see the reason for doing that), did you have the engine running with the new pump & no fluid? If so, you've probably stuffed the pump!
Turning the wheel 10x once it is full of fluid & running makes sense as it will get any airlocks out of the system (10x is a bit excessive, unless that's what Audi recommends).
As for fluid, I run normal Castrol power steering fluid (red, basically ATF) & not the Audi hydraulic fluid. I haven't had a problem with the new pump with that...
yeah someone recommended i do that, make sure get everything in and out,
where did u buy ur pump? went to a european shop, they want 200 for used, but i know thats ripp off
