hard starting
I have a 1998 a4 2.8 Quattro. A couple weeks ago, the car became kind of hard to start. Didn't matter if it was cold or warm, but it was very sporadic. I thought it was a tank of bad gas, so I ran that think through and filled it with Premium shell gas and some fuel system cleaner.I run the car through two full tanks of gas like that. But still, it gets hard to start. I've tried giving it gas when it doesn't start right away, or not giving it any gas at all. Nothing seems to help. once it starts, it runs fine. It may even start okay every once in awhile.I've even tried to pop start it when it does this, but nothing. Any suggestions?

I think I spoke to soon. I was in the car with the singing running for about 2 minutes, went to leave and it stalled. Now it wont start again. Now I have to sit here and listen to Ke$ha in the radio because every other station is playing friggen commercials. KMN

Lots of things can cause that. Pull your codes. Most likely it's either a bad coilpack, or a coolant temperature senor. Yes the ECT can cause it to do just that, as unbelievable as it sounds.
