Default Has anyone ever solved the 18014 ABS code?

I have the wonderful 18014 ABS code:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...4/P1606/005638

18014 - Rough Road/Engine Torque Signal from ABS: Electrical Malfunction

P1606 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

with this code I get an ABS light and an inability to connect to the ABS controller.

and from all my searched on the internet I cannot find were anyone has actually been able to solve this.

I emailed with Matt from cheap-abs.com and he doesn't think this is a module issue but he is happy to check it for a price.

Someone out there must have solved this???

It's a bad module.

Have you had this problem? Were you able to have the module repaired?

Matt is probably correct--no malfunction. DTC 18014 is described as following in Audi A4(B5) factory shop manual W42 014 195 117:
1. When the ABS/EDL control module senses a wheel spinning, it produces the rough road signal. When the ECM recognizes the rough road signal, the misfire recognition is switched off.
2. Check the rough road signal only when the trouble code 18014 "Rough Road Spec Engine Torque ABS-ECU Electrical Malfunction" is stored. The possible misfire malfunction is in this case a subsequent malfunction that can be disregarded."

With my home state of Michigan's bad and worse roads during winter I have
seen this condition a number of times with no bad vehicle effects. I scan it off and usually this DTC stays off unless the roads are full of potholes after a spring thaw and refreeze. However with an old Audi A4 with tired shocks and struts I suppose wheel hop and consequent spinning could set this fault code a lot.

I am not sure of the reasons Audi choose to describe this condition as a malfunction when it is in fact in many cases it is the normal result of the designer's intent to identify wheel hop and spinning causing the crankshaft to speed up then slow down.

Such great info, thanks so much!

I reset the code in the engine ecu, however I cannot seem to connect to the brake ecu. I wonder if there is flaky wiring causing both issues.

Some preliminary tracing tonight didn't yield much, however I have now studied the Bentley drawing and I think I can pin some things out tomorrow.

Like maybe broken connections inside the control unit?

If you search for A4 ABS control module failures including failure to connect you will find a lot of them. It is a common problem on and Audi and BMW as Bosch supplies a similar module to both manufacturers.

New code in the ABS module yesterday when I was able to connect to it (for less than 1 hour):

01203 - Electrical Connection between ABS and Instrument Cluster
03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent

I logged/scoped the sensors, everything looked good there.

I pulled the module and it is on the way to cheap-abs.com

So? Has this been solved yet cause I just got the code and can't find an answer on the fix.
Wish people would see their posts through and give some follow up info. =[
