Has this happened to your H&R Coilovers? Pic of broken mounting
So i was replacing my control arms this holiday and for about 3K miles, there was this increasingly loud clunking which i attributed to the control arms getting worse and worse.
Car is a 2000 a4 1.8tqm with 110K miles. all trouble free except for minor issues. Chipped at 20K and coilovers since 25K miles.
The picture is the coilover shock body that broke i guess 3K miles ago and has been held up with one side only! pretty amazing but im disappointed that it was a material failure? the crack occurred at the base of the weld bead.
Is this something that has happened to any coilover owners?

Me neither. I'm leaving that option open. Coilovers were bought new, installed by reputable shop and
haven't been touched since. so ~85K miles and this happens. the break was clean and along the weld bead line. so im not sure what else it might have been caused by.

even though the lower mount broke, the nut and bolt should have stayed tight.
why is the bolt coming out?
do you remember tightening that bolt under load when installing the coilovers? i think you are supposed to.. that could have caused the bolt to losen. and after it was loosened put too much tq on the lower mount while turning.
