Having an shifter issue.
When I inspected my Strat SS recently, I found that the plastic assembly that holds the shifter to the linkage, was broken off of the rails that it slides back and forth on. What I think has happened over time, is that the linkage was rubbing against the insulation in the tunnel directly in front of the shifter, making it difficult to operate. Because of this, excessive force was needed to find a gear, as the rubber was fighting the shifter's movement. When I realized this, I sprayed the assembly with white lithium grease, which seemed to solve the issue, until it came back. So, what I'm thinking is that the force needed to get in gear broke the connection to that rail. Now I have way too much play in 1st, 3rd and 5th, while in gear. 2nd, 4th, and reverse are acceptable. Now, the question is, do I replace the cradle that the shifter sits in, or might the problem exist due to some other cause?

When in 1st/2nd gear (5-speed) and I move the shifter while in gear it makes a wired sound...normal?
