Default heeeeeeelp

ok, so BenM just sent me his old s4 grill today so i set upon my quest to get the baby installed. i had read a few days earlier about the tabs so i tried to figure it out on my own and after 10 minutes of swollen fingers, no such luck. time to head to audiworld and checkout the faqs. no such luck! audiworld is down for an hour! after some anxious waiting and help from the people on #audiworld, audiworld comes back up and i read the faq. seems pretty easy, i thought. so after another 20 minutes of prying around with a screwdriver i finally get the baby out. mission accomplished! or so i thought..

so i pop the s4 grill in and with a little nudging it gets in. then i start to close the hood and admire all my hard work. no such luck! apparently i forgot to make sure the trunk release is sticking out of the grill. on top of that the hood wouldn't open nor will it close! after a good 20 minutes of trying to nudge it out, i notice i left the screwdriver just underneath the hood so i pry it out and manage to slam the hood shut. *clunk* *clang* oops, guess i forgot about the other screwdriver i left on the engine. i have no clue where the screwdriver is now, except that it's not under the car. hood still won't open... woe is me. so... any suggestions? hope you all get a good laugh over this... i think i'm gunna drive over to the dealership and see if they can help me (after they stop laughing)

mechanically uninclined,
-dan

Default You think that's bad (m)

Working on our co-worker's Mitsubishi Eclipse spyder (computer company with a bit of free time on our hands). He wanted to polish his valve cover, so he un-bolted the cam cover only to drop one, lone bolt into the cam gears. Couldn't find it, tried to fish it out with a magnetic snake, got under that car to see if it was under the gears, nothing. couldn't find it.

That is until next day at work when the dude feels something go wrong, looks under the hood, and sees a 2 inch tear in his timing belt caused by that lone bolt.

Doh!

Default at least you made an effort to get that baby out

i would love to get my hood open to look for that bad boy, but it ain't happening! so, does anyone think it's a bad idea to drive to the dealership with a 6" flathead flopping around in my engine?

Default hmmm, see if someone with an A4 will come over so you can examine if there is some way to open

the hood without having to pull on the hood release, like pulling/pushing the spring - you can use a screw driver between the S4 grill openings. I didn't take a real close look at the mechanism when I installed my S4 grill - by the way, in the future, use a butter knife on the tabs to get the grill out, makes things a lot easier, and start with the last tab on one side or the other. Whatever you do, DO NOT drive to the dealership with a screwdriver rattling around the engine bay.

Default Yeah, start the car and drive it with a screwdriver somewhere under the hood.

I'm being sarcastic of course. Be careful.
