Hello there, does anyone know the answer?
What is the pump in the left rear wheel well on a 98 2.8Q? What is its specific function and what could cause its malfunction manifested by a check engine light? Does anyone have a diagram of the fuel and vapor recovery system?
Thanks,
Jacek
BTW: Its Santorion Blue, stock five spoke wheels, and I work for one of the big 5.

Then again, are you any better? The service manual CD is out; why haven't you bought it? You're asking for copyrighted material; BUY IT!

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
To answer all the Audi questions:
My dealer can't seem to diagnose the problem. His solution: Change the whole fuel tank/emissions system. (see my previous post about fuel system problem) His mechanic went to a gas station with me and replicated the problem in front of me. He was clueless about it too. "I have never seen this before... Don't know what to tell you."
At the dealer it was discovered that the left rear wheel liner was missing exposing the above mentioned pump, filter, and hoses. My question was therefore about the possibility of kicked up dirt causing these components to malfunction and cause check engine light. I already am having a new filter and the wheel liner put in and am going to buy the CD, but I rather not have to keep having my fault light reset while I wait for the CD and have to try to find the problem.
