Since there were many improvements on the 1999 328, I would definitely go with the 2000 A4 2.8. I have one and test drove the BMW beforehand, and felt there was no comparison, especially with the quattro, and the interior and exterior. I had alot more confidence in the A4's ability to get me out of precarious situations. I also felt the A4 was easier to drive. Since these are just my subjective opinions, you need to test drive both back to back. If you live North of the Mason Dixon line, quattro is the only way to go
