HELP!
I have a 2001 A4 1.8TQ. Yesterday, the alarm started going off, even though I had not locked the car. After some experiments, I discovered that the doors were locking themselves, and then the alarm would go off! I found a quick fix, removing the fuse that controls the locking mechanism, but discovered it also controls the windows. Any ideas? (short term or long term) I am going away for 2 weeks, and don't want the alarm going off every 5 minutes.

First of all-
If you unlock the doors after the alarm had been set but do not open a door, the car will re-arm itself.
Besides that- it could be a number of things.
1) Interior motion sensor was tripped- did you have the windows or sunroof open?
2) My wife's old B5 had problems with the alarm going off randomly. After vagging- saw it was the front hood sensor. Did some searching and found that the sensor can go bad.
3) How hold is your battery? A dying battery can mess up the alarm system.

ah, i think you are onto something. the "rearming" would indeed explain why the doors "mysteriously" locked themselves as i was sitting in the car. and therefore it may be a problem with the alarm only. much better than what i feared. i will check and make sure it does not rearm with the dorrs opening.
