Default Help Deciding What to Do

i'm going to have my apr chip put in on fri. i bought it used from a 99 a4 1.8tq for my 97 a4 1.8tq. apr dealer is going to code the program to my ecu box. for another $20 labor and $16.95 for the external button and rca connector, i can have 2 extra programs (stock and i guess i can choose thhe 93 octane program) put on for selection.

should i do this? they said that they will need to drill a hole in the ecu box to have the cable running from it through the firewall to the fusebox. [damn, i wish that the 97s could utilize the cruise ctrl] i have an extended warranty through mbadirect.com and i don't want to void it b/c of this modification.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

Default If you don't want it to void.....

then don't drill....I didnt b/c it was still under warranty thru audi. Its only a few screws to undo the box and you can always change it like that....You aren't going to put it into stock mode too often.

Default doesn't your ecu open up under the dash?

My '96 has an opening from the ecu to under/behind my dash board. That's how I ran my wires for my A/F meter... no fire wall drilling required what so ever.

They might have changed that in '97 though... not positive.

it's the drilling in the ecu box itself for the rca cable to come out.

Default right... but to bring the wire into the engine bay?

or to run a wire to your dashboard.

I think it might be different from the '96 dash... but I have an access hole from the ECU box into my interior space... so no holes needing to be drilled.

If your ecu box is the same as mine... you won't need to drill a hole to get a wire into the cockpit of the car from your ecu... if it's not, sorry for the confusion.

Default it's quite noticable... mine had wires from the ecu running down into

the car... it's like a 2" x 4" oval in the back of the box (closest to the windshield)
