Default Help?!?! DIY Brake problem!!!

Trying to follow the tech section on replacing my brakes, and can't seem to get the caliper off of the rotor.

Am I missing something? I got the two 7mm hex bolts loosened, the "spring" has been removed, but it seems like the pads will not release from the rotor.

Any ideas??

thanks

If rear brakes - is the emergency brake engaged? (Doh!)

Default Well...

It could be that there's a raised lip on the edge of the rotor from wear. You may just need to pry the caliper open by inserting some sort of lever between it and the bracket. You may also be able to get it off by tapping it with a rubber mallet.

I'm having a hard time visualizing what's sticking. What part exactly is sticking to what other part?

Default Fully remove the 7mm guide pins...

also loosen up the cap on the master cylinder, then gently rock the caliper off.

Good Luck

Default Re: Well...

The Pads will not go over the lip on the rotor.

Default Then I guess my previous post covered it.

As jbaulsir said below, you should also be able to merely rock the caliper back and forth off the pads.

You may want to get new rotors, too.

Default Well, I was able to remove the calipers...

thanks for the suggestions.

I wanted to replace the rotors as well, but I can't get the bolts loose that hold the part that the calipers sit on. (Not sure if that makes sense)

Screw it. I'll just pay someone to go through this trouble.

What a waste of a vacation day.

Default Rotors are not attached to the hub...

you need to remove the caliper carrier. Check instructions at the bottom.

FYI

Default I know they are not attached. But you cannot remove....

the rotors from the hub until you remove the caliper carriers. After the calipers were removed, I couldn't get the bolts loose from the caliper carriers.

ugh.
