Default Help!. Don't find coolant temperature sensor!

Hi,

I just register here, I'm looking for the coolant temperature sensor and not sure if it is what I took a picture of. I have an Audi A4 2.8 V6 1996.. But if it is that.. Doesn't it suppose to have a cable attach or something?.. Sorry for the rookie question, it's my first car and I'm just starting to learn how to maintain a vehicle

Thats' not it.That's the coolant fan switch. That switch should have wires so as the electric fan and AC will work.

CTS is on passenger side to the back of the block.Much smaller pins.

Wow!. I just change that sensor like an hour ago, it was behind the radiator but weird thing is that I went to auto-zone and ask for a coolant temperature sensor and they give me this:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par..._377346_18589_

I don't find any plug that fits that sensor.. The picture I took was from a radiator pipe that is in front of the firewall, I don't really see any other sensor similar to the one that autozone gave me

That is the Coolant Temp Sensor. Unplugged, obviously. Where is the wire?

I don't know something is weird here, because look at the plug of the picture I took and look the plug from autozone sensor.. Even if the wire was there how it's going to connect to the new sensor, they are completely different. I took a picture of the sensor I changed today.. It came from the front of the radiator, passenger side from a main hose on the bottom

Like I said earlier, your picture is the switch to operate the electric cooling fan. The gauge of the pins is the clue. That and being in the radiator hose.

The coolant temp sensor (much smaller pins) that you have in your hand is on the passenger side at the back of the block. It's up top and hidden under a bunch of hoses. Senses the water temperature for the gauge and ECU.

The first picture I took its from the back of the block , passenger side.. Just how you said it, under a bunch of hoses and on the driver side there's is a 2 pin sensor, so is it the temp sensor or the switch for the fan?..the plug I have in my hand I got it from the front of my radiator Also what about the sensor I bought from autozone, where am I suppose to plug that?

If you want me to I can take picture of my engine or the place where the sensors are

US passenger side.

It's always 4 pins. It sits in the pipe at the back of the block.Make sure you get the o-ring and clip.

Can you send me a picture, diagram or something please.. I really can't find that sensor.. Also I scan my car and showed this fault codes.. Does the throttle just need an adjustment or do I need to buy a new switch?

I'd start by checking the operation of the throttle switch with an ohm meter, and replacing that coolant temp sensor you took a picture of...or at least plugging it back in. Is it really a surprise that the ECU is throwing a code for the CTS?
