HELP- engine codes etc

So i found a local place that has the ecu i want (i think). he tells me it's a awm engine code and he gave me the vin, but he has no way of telling me if it's automatic or not.

i'm assuming AWM is the enging code for manual tranny cars? and ATW is for autos?

please help!

Nope . .code is for different MY 1.8ts used in the Passat and A4.

The ATW is for MY 00 150hp
The AWM is the 170/180 hp MY 01 >

ok. so at least i got that out the way-

he has awm in stock. i checked the vin on carfax and it is indeed the same car as mine/year/quattro...

now final Q- does it matter whether the car in question is manual or tip?! if so, is there any way to find out with the information i have?

AWM is the engine code. If it is for an auto, you can recode it

using a VAG-COM.

Refer to Yippers' post for the details on the codes applications...

As kenny says . .you can look at the two softcodes and correct the other if it is a tip, etc.

Need a vag tool tho ..

word. so it's from a 2k1 a4 quattro, it's AWM coded ecu

and i have a vag- so essentially i should def. go get it?

Assuming the price is right and it has a return if defective 'policy' it will work for you.

Just check the softcode on it when you first plug it in ...

price is 150!! i'll dbl check with them about the return policy.

then again i'm waiting on the buyer of the car.
i told him i'd leave in the ecu if he gave me 500bux more =)

Sounds good .. especially if the buyer ponies up for the chipped ECU.

Didn't you have him test drive it stock and chipped? I would think taht alone would close the deal
