Help with getting a new deck
i have a 99.5 with the bose concert system, and i'm shopping around for a new deck. so when i went to a stereo shop today they told me that the rear, and only the rear, speakers are amplified. so in order to get a new deck, i would need to bypass that......and they were gonna charge me extra for doing so.
now this doesn't make much sense to me, why would they only amplify the rear speakers, and not the front?? and if it is true, does it really constitues an extra charge?? can i do it myself?? i looked in the tech section, but can't find anything on that. so any help would be appereicated.

I bet you will be better off keeping the stock headunit and just add sub woofer.
IMO aftermarket HU on bose system wont sound as good as stock BOSE.
Bose come with 200watt(I am not sure if it is peak or rms tho) whie most aftermarket is still under 100watt RMS.
Bose amp will produce better sound because current on bose amp is stronger.
Most aftermarket HU has very weak current on their amp because of its limited size of the unit.
If you still want to go for the aftermarket HU look then go head..but dont forget that your sound system wont sound good as stock bose.
about the power of bose..I dont remeber exactly where I found it..I'm trying to look for it now.
I will edit origninal post tho

Aftermarket HU takes so little current compare to those add-on or Bose amp.
So when those HU cranks up, there isnt much bass.
HU amp is actually running out of juice.
Those 100watt rms HU doesnt sound like 100 watt on add-on amp either..
also, what i meant was that they said the rear speakers were amplified, through a seperate amp, outside of the deck. i know that i didn't clarify that in the first place, so my apologies. what i'm asking for in the first post was that they offered to bypass that amp for me, and i didn't know where it was or how it was connected to the rear speakers. so any info on that would be appereicated
again, thanks
