Default Help with getting a new deck

hey guys,

i have a 99.5 with the bose concert system, and i'm shopping around for a new deck. so when i went to a stereo shop today they told me that the rear, and only the rear, speakers are amplified. so in order to get a new deck, i would need to bypass that......and they were gonna charge me extra for doing so.

now this doesn't make much sense to me, why would they only amplify the rear speakers, and not the front?? and if it is true, does it really constitues an extra charge?? can i do it myself?? i looked in the tech section, but can't find anything on that. so any help would be appereicated.

Default huh?

if you can hear the signal, then its amplified, now, I wonder where it is amplified. -- basicly, they are saying, you can buy a 4 channel head unit, with amplification for 4 channels, if you have 4 speakers, you're okay -- if not, then they have to split the signal off to the rear speakers, which would require an adapter (or if there's not separate amplifier, a separate amp) makes sense?

Default I recommand..(edited)

first...rear speakers are self amplified unit..so usually audio shop just cut the rear speaker line from the amplifier.

I bet you will be better off keeping the stock headunit and just add sub woofer.

IMO aftermarket HU on bose system wont sound as good as stock BOSE.

Bose come with 200watt(I am not sure if it is peak or rms tho) whie most aftermarket is still under 100watt RMS.

Bose amp will produce better sound because current on bose amp is stronger.
Most aftermarket HU has very weak current on their amp because of its limited size of the unit.

If you still want to go for the aftermarket HU look then go head..but dont forget that your sound system wont sound good as stock bose.

Default about the HU..

I said most aftermarket HU is LESS than 100watt rms..I still remember some panasonic HU can put 25watt RMS per channel and 50watt peak.

about the power of bose..I dont remeber exactly where I found it..I'm trying to look for it now.

I will edit origninal post tho

Default yea it was a while ago

i havent looked at specs for a HU for such a long time. Well mainly because i couldnt care less what a HU puts out im connecting it to an amp anyways. But still i dont know if i would trust the manufacturers spec on whats it puts out, they seem pretty high...prob has a pretty high level of noise when its putting that much power.

Default yeah I agree

stock bose amp is pretty beffy compare to those little HU amp.
Aftermarket HU takes so little current compare to those add-on or Bose amp.

So when those HU cranks up, there isnt much bass.
HU amp is actually running out of juice.

Those 100watt rms HU doesnt sound like 100 watt on add-on amp either..

Default clarification

thanks guys for all the replies. i am aware that the bose system is pretty good, but i am planning on getting an alpine 7998, which decodes MP3s in addition to being a regular CD player. moreover, the 7998 does not have an internal amp, i have to add one in..... and i already have one that puts out way more power than the bose unit.

also, what i meant was that they said the rear speakers were amplified, through a seperate amp, outside of the deck. i know that i didn't clarify that in the first place, so my apologies. what i'm asking for in the first post was that they offered to bypass that amp for me, and i didn't know where it was or how it was connected to the rear speakers. so any info on that would be appereicated

again, thanks
