Help with repairs!
I have a '96 A4 stock, I bought about 7,000 miles ago. It currently has about 108,000 miles or so. I don't really think it was maintained very well, and I just replaced the Front Control Arms about 4k ago. I was wondering what other major items I need to replace or check for replacing?
Also, has anyone else had trouble with their drivers seat? My seat is really painful on long trips and is not supportive any more. I'm thinking of getting a replacement. Does anyone know where I could find one and how much they run for?

sorry.. A4 2.8 Quattro
that might help right.. Im pretty sure the timing belt needs to be changed. The suspension is extremely loose/vague on turns. I don't know if that is normal?

when you do the timing belt do the waterpump too....
you need to remove t/b to do waterpump so do it while your there! the front end problem could be control arms or tie rods. check your car for recall on tie rods!<ul><li><a href="http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/">http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/</a</li></ul>

If it hasn't already been done, the timing belt!
along with the tensioners, water pump, serp belt, etc
Other than that I would think you should be fine.
Here's a list of things to check:
control arms (all of them)
wheel Hub bearings
Air conditioner compressor and clutch
Idler Control Valve (probably only needs to be cleaned)
spark plugs and wires
air filer
might consider checking break fluid and pads/rotors
That's all I can think of.

I have a 1996 12 valve. The steering and suspension on these cars cause a lot of problems.I would follow the 60K service list.Change the fluid in the power steering as the rack and pump can get tired, make sure you use the correct fluid it is different from every other vehicle on the planet.If the brake fluid looks old (it goes black) flush it with DOT4.Assuming you don't know the service history of this car in about 15-20K you should think about changing serpentine belts + timing belt + tensioner + thermostat and water pump. As to the front seat it is a power seat I don't know of any direct replacements. If yours is sagging you should be able to get a better one from a junkyard I'd guess.

thx for all the info...
I will take a look and bring to my mechanic. I will definitely be doing the timing and other belts right away. If anyone knows where I could pick up a Black power leather driver side seat, Please email me. Thx again.
