help with reprogramming ecu

Hi all.. I am getting a spare ECU for my 01 1.8. I have a CH ecu now for a 5 speed w/ESP. Can anyone who's done the reprogramming in the past post the procedures to reprogram an ecu from an auto w/out ESP to mine? Many thanks.

Short answer: you use vagcom to login to ECU to change the coding.

I'll research it and post it again.

Ahhh. brain fart. My previous post was getting Cruise control working.

To change what you need, you need to read the "softcode" from your existing ECU, and just program that into your new ECU. That should do it.
I don't think you need a vag-com "log-in" code to make the change.
