Help! It seems my car doesn't have a cooling fan control thermal switch? (EDIT)
V6 30v AHA engine AT
Secondary cooling fan doesn't come on at all (AC/high temp), causing the engine temp to climb up during stop and go traffic.
Figured I'll check the switch first so I look around the lower radiator hose for the switch... and I can't find it. Nothing attached to the hose between the radiator and the engine block. WTF?
EDIT: I also looked around the radiator near the lower coolant hose for the switch to be on the radiator itself to no avail?

Wrong spot
I have the AHA also. The bentley says it is in the lower radiator hose, but I think that's for the newer V6 engine. The fan switch is actually on the bottom part of the radiator on the driver's side. You will see wires and a connector going into the radiator. Just pull that connector off, replace the sensor, and put the connector back on (coolant is going to pour out when you do this).

D'oh! I saw the plug too, but had no clue WTF it was.
Do you have a part number handy? I figure it shouldn't be too expensive and I'll just replace it instead of testing it, etc.

Go to ECS and get:
Radiator Fan Switch with Gasket (Middle Temperature) ES#1695
Under Engine>Cooling. Get the middele temp one. I have the low temp one and the fan seems like it's almost always on. D'oh! Picked one up at the VW dealership today.
A bit more pricy. Oh well.
Do you think it's possible to replace it without draining the coolant?
Pull the old one out, slap the new one in real quick? I figure I will lose some, but not a lot.
