Help: stalling question... !?!?

Help: stalling question... !?!?
for the past week or so my car has been stalling for no reason... especially when I'm at a stop light. The car just stops... and the battery light goes on. Sometimes it is/isn't accompanied with a check engine light. When I try to start the car... you can hear the engine turn... but it doesn't catch. Last night it happened at almost every second light... the car would stall... then would have difficult starting. A few times... the car has jerked.. and the rpms would dip.. the check engine light and battery light flash... then i hit the gas and it goes away...... can anyone tell me what could possibly be happening?
also... I had the car running for like 2 minutes in my driveway... then all of a sudden it just stalled... the car wasn't evening doing anything
btw.. i have a 2001 1.8T... ~107000 km
