Default help!!!!!! water problems

I just moved into a new place and this morning was the first chance I have had to wash my cars. The first time I finished, I used my chamis as usual to dry it off. After it had dried, there were terrible spots all over the place. So I figured that the chamis was dirty and proceded to rewash the car. This time I figured I would just let it air dry...the same nasty spots appeared! Now I figure that it is the water. This is an older house, I am guessing from around the 1930's. Please help me out...I cant afford and I also hate the powerwash.

Sounds like hard water with lots of minerals in it. Wash the car in the shade and dry it completely.

Default Yup, hard water spots. Can be hard to remove, too. Quick drying by hand is essential.

I have mildly hard water at my house. When I wash in hot weather I make a point of constantly wetting down the whole car as I go along, so that no section ever has a chance to start drying on its own. Then I work quickly to dry it off by hand before any spots can form. This is a challenge only if I've made the mistake of washing the car late in the day. I try to do early morning washes, and it's no big deal. It goes without saying that washing in direct sun is asking for trouble. The car should be COOL to the touch. If the spots you've got are stubborn (meaning a re-wash doesn't get rid of them), you may need to use a glaze to remove them. Then wax. Then you're set.
Rick

Default Btw, if your water is really hard (it's the water, not your house)....

...you might want to get a water analysis done and maybe install a water softener. A softener will not only help to lessen/prevent those spots on your cars, it'll be good for the pipes in your house. Hard water minerals accumulate in your plumbing, restricting flow over time and ultimately causing problems. If Culligan is in your area, give them a call. You can buy the equipment or pay a monthly rental fee for it.
Rick

Try using Rain-X car wash. Little drying necessary. Works pretty good.
