how long on average does it take for a spring install?

I disagree. If the mechanic is good, he'll probably take twice that...
...no freaking way can it be done right in two hours by one guy, even if he knows the A4 like the back of his hand.
If the mechanic is competant but doesnt know Audis, I'd say you're looking at 6 hours to get it done right.
Based on my personal experience, I'd say that torqing all the bolts at ride height is where mechanics are likely to cut corners. There are other aspects to doing the job right, but thats the big one.

mine took all day for springs and shocks
but then again, the guy must've been taking his sweet time cuz i dropped the car off at 10am and he called me at 3pm, telling me he just now took off the wheels to look at the suspension (apparently he doesn't have much experience with audi's) and said he's gonna need it the rest of the day (they closed at 7) cuz it's "a mother of a job". him and another guy worked on it from 3-7, so i ended up waiting 9 hours total.

mine took about 2.5 hrs b/c he paused to go work on another car. prolly less than 2hrs had he not
done so.
i paid $150 for springs and shock install
i doubt he cut any corners.
most places i called were much more expensive and claimed longer hours, so i'd shop around if i were you.
