Default Impact Wrench for Changing Wheels?

I found this on the web:
http://www.baproducts.com/rp-03048.htm

and I am wondering if this is worth the $50 or if it's a piece of crap and I should rather buy something more substantial for five times the money (like Craftsman at Sears).
The only thing I like about this one is that it connects to the cigarette lighter. But, it does not say anything about torque adjustment.

Anyone's got one of these or some other Impact Wrench? Can you adjust the torque level on yours (to meet the car mfg specifications)?

Thanks<ul><li><a href="http://www.baproducts.com/rp-03048.htm">http://www.baproducts.com/rp-03048.htm</a</li></ul>

Default I wouldn't recommend an impact wrench at all.

Use a socket to tighten the bolts up to a point and then use an adjustable torque wrench to correctly torque to spec. Re-torque after driving about 100 miles or so.

All an impact wrench is going to do is strip out your wheel bolts.

Default No, I doubt you would strip the threads, but you will warp brake rotors in a hurry..

I use my 3/8 butterfly impact driver to snug the lugs down, then torque wrench to spec. Most folks use impact drivers to loosen the lugs, but I have found that the little ones seldom have enough real torque to do the job. My pneumatic impact driver makes upwards of 400lb/ft in reverse, and on occasion it has to work to loosen a lug bolt, especially on older cars that have seen too many winters.

Default I use an electric impact wrench but use a torque wrench for torquing.

Don't forget to get impact bits (as opposed to normal ratchet bits).

Liam

Default

won't strip if you use impact wrench bits.

Default You can use an impact wrench, just get some torque stix as well

They are avaiable from most major tool suppliers. Really nice. You put them on the impact and they don't allow you to over torque the bolt no matter how much you blast on it.

Default I have that very same wrench. Works great. Can't adjust torque, though. It makes quicker work...

of swapping out snow wheels/tires. I usually hand-crank the wheels at the end. It's a good deal, IMO, especially in emergencies - flat tire, etc. I just keep it in my trunk.
