Gap stays the same, but optical illusion makes it look bigger.

No...in fact, it will VISUALLY increase the gap (as the thin tire sidewalls call attention to gap).

No, it all depends on what size tire you get. If you do 225x40's it's "slightly" bigger than stock

16's. If you do 235x35 it's smaller than stock.
