keyless entry install
Hey, I have a 1996 A4 2.8 Q and it was not originally purchased with the keyless entry option, so I am installing an aftermarket system and just need a little help finding the location and color of the lock and unlock wires. I installed a similar system on my 1988 90 Q, and that system only used one wire for lock and unlock so I had to set up a couple of relays to make it work. It seems like the newer central locking systems do use seperate wires for lock and unlock, and unlock requires two impulses or something, I just need some help finding where they are located. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You car probably does have keyless entry
I did a ton of searching old posts and got it to work in my car. I got lucky and was able to turn mine on with just a used remote off ebay, but what I found during my search is that almost all of the cars have keyless installed. It was designed as a "dealer option" meaning that the dealer could turn the system on for additional cost to the buyer. From what I understand, if you can get someone with a vag, they can turn the system on for you. You'd then just need the keys and remote and follow the instructions for recoding the remote in the tech section. I saved the text off the old posts as a Word document, so email me if you want them.
